The Sanctuary now offers a specialty bed and breakfast service designed specifically for animal lovers and vegetarians. Since people want to come and visit the animals all the time, we thought “let’s develop this into a way to help support them!”.

Nestled high up in the hills, The Sanctuary is a perfect hideaway to relax and get away from it all. In addition to a lovely spacious bedroom, you’ll also enjoy your own private lounge with TV and DVD player and a long outdoor deck with stunning views of native bush, ocean and the Coromandel. We offer an onsite hot tub, pool table, petanque area and movie theatre with hundreds of DVDs to watch. For the more active, you can take a hike to a beautiful waterfall, work out in our home gym, shop at the famous Matakana Saturday markets, or go snorkelling at the nearby Goat Island Marine Reserve. Of course the best part of staying at a sanctuary is meeting all the animals! When you stay with us you can tour the facilties, help at feeding time, meet the rehabilitating native birds and give a cuddle to our friendly residents. Even just walking through the property or having a picnic lunch will give you lots of opportunities to see wild birds in their native habitat. Best of all, you have the satisfaction of knowing you’ve helped the animals in a very special way.

All guests receive a complimentary gift basket full of organic products such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and toothpaste. Food served is vegetarian and is predominantly organic. Weekend packages with optional lunches and dinners are also available.

Please note that due to health & safety concerns around animals, we do not accept children under the age of 8 as guests. Parents must accept full responsibility and accompany their children at all times to ensure their safety.
