And The Answer Is…

The answer to the “Readers Contest” photo below is: that’s a hibernating hedgehog on Georgie’s lap, and she’s painting it with blue nailpolish! Lindsay & Ashleigh were the other volunteers to help that day, and here’s what they have to say:
“We never know what we’re going to be up to at The Sanctuary, but this week we were in luck because we got to help at the monthly hedgehog weigh in. The Sanctuary is home to 8 rescued female hedgehogs who live together in a communal habitat. This check up is an important opportunity for us to see how they’re doing. We record their weight, replace hay in their houses and give them a good look over. The spot of nail polish we put on their spines isn’t just a fashion statement, it’s a great way for us to differentiate between all 8 housemates (each one gets a different colour). Our favourite was the smallest hedgie, Nudge, who stole our hearts. She was more interested in crawling all over us than being weighed, which we of course loved. It was ridiculously fun to spend a little time with each hedgehog, even the few who were hibernating and slept through the entire process!”
