Jackets for Naked Rescued Hens
September 24, 2009
As you can see from the photo below this one, the recently rescued battery hens were literally bald from their ordeal in the battery cages. We were very worried about how to keep them warm on these cold winter nights while they recuperated… until Amy Mitchell of Christchurch came to our rescue. Amy contacted us and offered to make “hen warmers” for the hens that were worst off. She constructed a number of polar fleece jackets and sent them up to us…and even put a heart on each one to show how much she cared!
Our multi-talented volunteer Georgie Dixon and our caring neighbour Cassie Fleming made the required adjustments and alterations to the unique jackets, and our problem was solved. The girls stayed warm and looked adorable! Thank you so much to each of you for your help.
