Jose’s Road to Recovery
January 23, 2011
Thank you so much for all the good wishes and emails regarding Jose after he was savaged by hunting dogs. All of his wounds (except the worst one) are healing very well. It’s only the unstitched gaping hole in his ‘armpit’ that is still causing us concern, as it isn’t closing. In spite of all the treatment, including antibiotics, a couple of days ago he became very warm and agitated. We realised he had a fever, which indicated the beginning of infection. So we started putting colloidal silver in his drinking water, and spraying colloidal silver directly into the wound twice a day. Thank goodness this did the trick, and he seems better now. He’s getting restless from being confined to the stables, but I can’t risk him getting mud in the wound.
The other good news is that the Council/Dog Control have decided to prosecute the dog owners. The dogs have been seized, and have to stay at the pound until the case has been heard and the judge makes a decision. Although I feel sorry for the dogs because they were only doing what their owner taught them to do, I don’t believe that it will be safe for anyone if they’re released. We learned that one of the dogs bit a local man, so it’s not only animals that were in danger. And since three of our neighbours have had recent dog attacks resulting in the death of their animals (which they believe were by the same dogs) I’m very thankful that Jose was able to be saved in time.
