Neera’s Sudden Departure

Our little dog Neera died today. It was completely unexpected. Her breathing had changed a bit over the last week, so we took her to the vet this morning. He said she had a heart murmer, gave us meds, and said she should live for several more years. She died in my arms on the way home. We can only guess that it was the stress of the ride and the vet visit. We stopped the car and gave her mouth to nose resuscitation. I brought her back several times, but her heart just wouldn’t keep going. After the 5th time, we let her go.

We’re very sad, but grateful that it was a quick passing and she didn’t suffer at all. Yesterday she was still going for a walk down to the chickens, and jumping on the bed, and being her normal cheeky self. We rescued Neera from bad circumstances 11 years ago, when she was just 1 year old. We’re grateful for the many years of wonderful cuddles, kisses, love and joy she brought to our lives.
