New Treatment, New Strategies
July 12, 2011
Sparky’s wound looked so red & raw yesterday, that I was absolutely beside myself with worry. I had a major session with our pharmacist, and came up with a new treatment strategy. We’re trialing MEBO, a natural formulation that rapidly stimulates skin regrowth. My pharmacist promises that it’s like a miracle, and even better/faster than Medihoney (which he also says is really good). I’m changing the bandages and applying the MEBO at least 3 times a day. It’s a challenge, and it’s also expensive, but I’m willing to do whatever it takes to heal this sweet gentle creature. We’ll continue to confine Sparky to his stall to keep the leg clean and dry throughout treatment. This afternoon we’re working on a longer-term bigger-picture strategy to deal with this horrible annual mud dilemma, which causes so many fungal and bacterial problems for the animals (and us!) every winter. Watch this space tomorrow, as I’ll begin putting thoughts into action, and asking for your ideas and input… Cheers, Shawn
