New Year, New Life For Zeke
January 8, 2012
It’s almost impossible to rehome roosters. So we were delighted when a lovely woman named Deborah called us wanting to adopt 3 rescued battery hens… and a rooster! Deborah’s beloved pet rooster had passed away, and she wanted to adopt another. Zeke is a beautiful silver laced wyandote who was rescued over a year ago and has been patiently waiting for a new home. Deborah was his dream come true. She’s good at collecting all the eggs so that there are no chicks hatching, which is a relief for us. (Half of most clutches turn out to be male, and as you can only have 1 rooster most of these end up being killed or dumped.) We’ve had photos of Zeke and the girls at their new home, and they’re clearly living the good life. What a wonderful start to 2012. We’ll be rescuing more battery hens in mid-January… I hope they all find a home as good as this one.
