Pave The Way For The Animals
August 20, 2011
As you know, the wet weather has caused a number of serious problems for the animals, including fungal wounds and hoof problems. Since this happens every year, we have decided that we need to improve facilities to provide a permanent solution. We’re implementing this strategy in several ways. For the smaller animals, we’re building wooden walkways. This one is in the pig and goat paddock, and they LOVE it! Thanks so much to our German volunteer Mike for all his hard work in building it for us. We’ve also created a brick path and a brick plaza in two muddy sections using recycled bricks. Both are working really well. Our next phase will involve concreting the high use areas outside the stables and on either side of all gates. I’ve been bidding on concrete mixers on Trade Me, but so far they’ve exceeded our budget. Keep your fingers crossed that I obtain one this week, as this drier weather is perfect for starting the concrete project. Long may it continue!!
