Penguin Rescue Underway!

We got a call last night from Kawau Island, where a little blue penguin was caught in a fence, probably for several days. It has a badly mangled leg. We arranged for him to be transported to the mainland by water taxi this morning. Our eager volunteers Ashleigh and Lindsay are picking him up at the wharf and then taking him to the vet. Supervet Ross Lynch is on alert and ready, and after treatment the penguin will come back to The Sanctuary for rehab. Time to thaw out some squid and fish for feeding. Ah, just another day of ‘good works’ at The Sanctuary!
