Sparky’s Healing Complete

April 24, 2011

Most of you will remember Sparky, the electrocuted calf we rescued at the beginning of December with the terrible disabling wound on his leg. It’s been 4 1/2 months, and for the very first time since he arrived, we didn’t have to treat his leg last week. There is now flesh and a fine tissue covering the entire wound, and it no longer bleeds every day. It’s wonderful to see Sparky larking around in the pasture with Maddie, his little goat friend. Sparky is like a (very big!) puppy, wriggling with excitement at meal time, and giving lots of kisses and cuddles… and still trying to sit on my lap! I had no idea when we rescued Sparky that cattle could be so affectionate and interactive. I shouldn’t be surprised. I’m learning that every animal, no matter what species, is like this when they’re loved and treated well. Thanks for the reminder, Sparkles!
