Sparky’s Transformation

January 4, 2011

In December we rescued this small calf, and named him Sparky because he’d survived prolonged electrocution. You’ve already heard the stories of his horrific injuries, his rescue, and the operation and medical treatments he endured. He was wild, hadn’t been handled except to be hurt, and was absolutely terrified of everyone and everything. So it’s nothing short of a miracle that exactly one month later Sparky is a totally sweet, affectionate, fully mobile calf. He runs over to be cuddled and get treats; tries to sit in my lap; has decided that being scratched is one of life’s greatest pleasures; follows me like a puppy; nuzzles and gives kisses; and walks happily to the pasture to graze. Yesterday he even got all silly and frisky, dancing and prancing around the paddock. Although his leg is still bandaged, it’s clearly healing well!! We’re looking forward to having the bandages removed soon, but we have no doubt that Sparky is making a full recovery – both physically and emotionally. He’s a true success story, and we couldn’t be happier.
