Weaning Little Maddie
November 17, 2010
Several people have inquired about the progress of our rescued baby goat, Maddie. She’s doing extremely well, has bonded closely with us, is getting into all kinds of normal kid trouble, and mixes nicely with her new friends the donkeys, horse, goat and pigs. Our miniature horse, Romeo, is the same pure white as Maddie, so she seems to think that Romeo must be family! She chases him around constantly. When we first received Maddie we gave her a bottle at least 4 times a day. We’re weaning her now, and she’s down to 1 bottle daily. Although she gobbles solid food happily, she misses her bottle and the connection of being bottle fed. Every time I lean down to weed or pick something up, Maddie tries to suckle my neck – and I end up with tiny little goat hickeys. Trust me, it’s NOT as cute as it sounds!! However, she makes me laugh and brings a lot of joy into our lives, and we’re very happy she’s living with us here at The Sanctuary.
